Faith Promise preachers and teachers use as their main “proof-text,” 2 Corinthians 8:12 & 2 Corinthians 9:7. Let’s look at those passages and see what they actually say.
For if there be first a willing mind, [it is] accepted according to that a man hath, [and] not according to that he hath not. (2 Cor 8:12)
This verse is not speaking of Faith Promise at all. It IS speaking about giving, but about giving from what one actually HAS, not what they might have in the months ahead.
Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. 2 Cor 9:7
This verse doesn’t endorse faith promise either. It teaches joyful contributions, not because of a promise. Giving because of a promise would be OBLIGATION, which the verse clearly teaches against.
Another verse that knocks Faith Promise off of its weak feet is 1 Corinthians 16:2. There, we read:
Upon the first [day] of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as [God] hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. 1 Cor 16:2
The Biblical formula is as follows: God prospers, then the members who have been blessed financially give..
a) God prospers first b) We give from what God hath prospered us
Faith promise teaches the exact opposite…
a) We promise to give b) God now must bless us financially so we are not found to be liars.
Faith Promise is not scriptural. It is just another man-made doctrine that the unlearned have been deceived into believing.
Matthew 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
If we are going to preach, we had best preach the Word as it is written. God will hold that one accountable who handles the Word of God deceitfully.

Faith promise is basically giving on the installment plan....giving what you don't have and "testing God" to supply your need.
2 Corinthians 8:11 Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have.
2 Corinthians 8:12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.
