“28Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee. 29And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's, 30But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. 31But many [that are] first shall be last; and the last first.” (Mark 10:28-31, KJV).
Some Faith teachers will attempt to argue from Mark 10:30, that as Jesus here promised his follower’s a hundredfold multiplication of houses and lands, therefore he must have been promising them great wealth. However the context according to verse twenty nine, are the apostles leaving their families, relatives, possessions and wealth in order to preach and not their gaining greater additional wealth. Persecution is also promised at verse thirty. So in the event of these apostles having left their families, relatives, houses and lands in order to preach, Jesus tells them that those followers of his amongst whom they will minister, can be considered as their families – brothers, sisters and mothers, but not wives as sexual impropriety outside of the marriage bed is certainly not being encouraged here. Secondly, the apostles, as they moved from town to town would be housed and fed by the believers within that vicinity. This is the context for their having a hundred-fold houses and lands. So Jesus is not saying to his apostles that they will acquire the title deeds to one hundred properties and thereby become wealthy. But rather, they are to count the families, houses and possessions of a hundred believers (who’re housing and feeding them) as their own families, houses and lands.
