Recently, the tele-evangelist Mike Murdock, said: “Tithe is proof of your faith in God.”
Mike Murdock needs to study the tithe more. He fails miserably at preaching God’s Holy tithe.
I encourage all to read their Bibles. Don’t just take Mike’s word as Gospel truth. Don’t just take my word as Gospel truth. The Bible must be our ultimate authority in all matters of faith and practice.
Search every instance where God commands tithing in the Bible. If you do, you will see that not once does God command a tithe of money from His people; neither from ancient Israel, nor from the Church today.
It’s just not there.
The last chapter in the Bible where tithes are commanded is in Hebrews 7. There, we read that those who have a command to take tithes is not the Church. Rather, it is the sons of Levi, who have a command to take tithes of their brethren…”according to the Law.”
What did the Law say concerning tithing?
That it was agricultural in its content (Lev 27:30-33)
That it was for the children of Israel (Lev 27:34)
That it was not to be observed outside of Israel (Deut 12:1,8,10-11)
That it was to be given to the Levites (Num 18:21,24,26,28; Neh 10:37-38)
That it was also to be given to the widows, orphans and strangers in Israel (Deut 14:28-29; Mal 3:5-11)
In Psalm 147:19-20, we read that God did not give Gentile nations the same Law that He gave to the children of Israel. Acts 15:10,23-29 reaffirms that the tithe was not for Gentile Converts to eternal life in Christ Jesus.
We learn in Deut 14:22-27 that the tithe was to be eaten by the tither, his household, and Levites.
Deut 12:8, by the way, tells us that man could not tithe money, time or talent. God laid down the guidlines governing the tithe and those guidelines said the tithe was agricultural. Man could not do what seemed right in his own eyes.
Be as the Bereans. Search the Scriptures to see if it is so. If you compare what I have written here, you will see that I have revealed more about the tithe than most pastors want their congregations to know about the tithe.
Malachi 3′s rebuke and admonition was not to the Church. It was to Israel. Even 3:6 tells us that “therefore, ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.” The storehouse was in the Temple at Jerusalem itself. God never relocated it to any other building in any other location.
If you ignore the Word of God and adhere to false doctrine taught by your pastor, that is idolatry.
